Project #1 - footprint

 Description: 

This footprint activity was used as an activity to introduce myself. This would be helpful in the classroom to initially get to know your students and what their interests, hobbies, and families are like. The criteria for the footprint activity was to use three different mediums. For my footprint, I put my name- Mrs. Stotz in the middle and then surrounded it with things that make me me. I included a set of Minnie Mouse ears with crayon because I LOVE Disney. I also included three little people and a puppy in crayon to represent my daughter Parker, husband Michael, myself, and my puppy Winston. I used a toothpick to create a fishing rod and a google eye to represent my love of fishing. I used pencil to sketch a 1919 root beer because that is my favorite thing to drink. I also glued on flowers from a wedding card I received because i love flower bouquets. 

I think a fun extension activity would be doing a "family footprint". The students could go home and make a footprint of their adult guardian's foot and then create one with things about their immediate family members to bring back and share so we can build a classroom community.

COLOR- I would use this image above to teach about color. I would plan this around the fall time and point out to the students each of the colors in the photo, and then talk about other places they see these colors of orange, green, brown, and white around them.  UNITY- I would use this image to teach about unity. Each of the squares is its own square and different color, but they all come together to form one unified rug.  TEXTURE- I would use this photo to teach about texture. Skyline printmaking

Description: For this project, we created a skyline using printmaking techniques. We began by painting a sunset background with watercolors, applying the wet-on-wet technique to achieve a smooth, realistic sunset effect on the watercolor paper. Afterward, we set the paintings aside to dry. While the sunsets were drying, we started working on our print. We used a piece of paper the same size as our foam plate to design a skyline of our choice, ensuring it included at least three structures. We then taped the paper onto the foam printmaking plate and traced the design with firm pressure. Once the design was transferred, we removed the paper and retraced the outline on the foam to ensure it was deeply pressed. Next, we applied black printmaking ink to the foam using a brayer and tested the print on scrap paper to check the design. Hidden safari

We began this lesson by making red glasses to us later on in our project. Then we went through a power point of different safari animals that we had to find hiding in their surroundings which gave us great insight into the jungle and animals that live there. Then we did some practice with upside down line drawing. After that, we got to pick our own animal that we were going to upside down draw. We then used a light blue to draw that animal and then made a thick pattern over it with warm colors to help hide our animals like the jungle does for the Safari animals. Once our animal was drawn and hidden we got to look at it with the red glasses which hit the pattern and made our animal stick out. Then we write out the characteristics to help our peers guess our animal.  I think a good extension would be doing this during a geography unit where you are teaching all the different biomes around the world and letting students pick a biome and an animal that would fit in that biome.
