Art principles photos

COLOR- I would use this image above to teach about color. I would plan this around the fall time and point out to the students each of the colors in the photo, and then talk about other places they see these colors of orange, green, brown, and white around them.

UNITY- I would use this image to teach about unity. Each of the squares is its own square and different color, but they all come together to form one unified rug.

TEXTURE- I would use this photo to teach about texture. This image is kind of a honeycomb image that you would be able to feel.

SHAPE- I would use this image to teach my students about shapes. This is a good real life example of shapes around them. This is a good example of squares, rectangles, and circles.

EMPHASIS- I would use this image to teach about emphasis. The photo uses a gold frame and black letters so those stick out in comparison to the white background.

Extension activity-- I would have the students find different elements and principles of design in a magazine or other form of media of their choice. I would have them create a collage of these items and then accompany the collage with a description of the different elements they included in their collages.
